The forest department has rescued a huge python that had become caught in the net of a vegetable field in Alikadam, Bandarban.

The snake was rescued on the afternoon of Sunday 17 August from a vegetable field in the Abbas Karbari Para area of Noyapara union in the upazila.

Local people said farmers went to work in the field at around 10:30 in the morning. There they found a python at least seven feet long tangled in the net put up to protect the vegetables, and informed the Lama forest division. Forest department staff later rescued the snake from the spot and took it into their custody.

Lama divisional forest officer Mustafizur Rahman said the snake was rescued with the help of local people. The python is healthy and will be released in the Matamuhuri reserved forest, he said.
