A huge baghair fish weighing 25 kg has been caught in a fisherman's net in the Padma river at Daulatdia in Goalanda, Rajbari district. The fish was sold for Tk 30,000, at Tk 1,200 a kg.

The baghair was caught in fisherman Joy Haldar's net at the mouth of the Padma near the 7 no. ferry ghat at Daulatdia at around 8am on Wednesday (3 November).

Joy Haldar took the fish to sell to Samrat Shahjahan Sheikh, owner of the Shakil-Sohan fish wholesale shop at the 5 no. ferry ghat in Daulatdia, who bought it at Tk 1,200 a kg for a total of Tk 30,000. Samrat Shahjahan Sheikh is now contacting buyers in different parts of the country by mobile phone to sell it.

Fisherman Joy Haldar told Banglanews that several of them went fishing in the river early on Wednesday. "We cast the net several times and were disappointed. Then we cast it again at around 7am, and when we pulled it up at around 8am we saw the fish caught in it," he said. At around 10am he brought the fish to the Shakil Sohan fish wholesale shop at the 5 no. ferry ghat, where fish trader Samrat Shahjahan Sheikh bought it at open auction for Tk 30,000 at Tk 1,200 a kg.
