Eighteen goats have died of extreme heat at Baipail in Ashulia, Savar, on the outskirts of the capital. The goats were being carried in a bus luggage box to a sacrificial animal market in the capital. The trader later left the dead goats beside the Abdullahpur-Baipail road.

Local people saw the dead goats on the road at around 10am on Friday (8 July). It is thought the goats died because of the intense heat inside the bus luggage box.

Eyewitness Abul Hossain told Jagonews that at around 11pm on Thursday night, a passenger bus was moving slowly towards Dhaka because of a traffic jam. The bus suddenly stopped in front of America Plaza in Baipail, and several people got off and took 18 dead goats out of the luggage box. The owner of the goats broke down in tears.

The owner said 20 goats were being taken to Dhaka in the bus luggage box to be sold at a sacrificial animal market. Eighteen died and two barely survived; they were given water and taken on inside the bus.

The goats were being brought from Pabna to Dhaka for sale. They died on the way from suffocation and extreme heat.
