Ramzan Ali of Gourabardi village in Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj, is growing off-season Kalachan and Tripti watermelons on trellises over seven bighas, with fish in the pond and gourds on its banks, and says he now earns about Tk 50,000 a month.
At Sohel Rana's 75-bigha Barendra Agro orchard in Sapahar, 1,800 Gourmoti and 1,700 Katimon trees are still carrying fruit that sells at Tk 7,000-8,000 a maund, well after the main season.
