The carcass of a wild elephant was found lying in a paddy field in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. It was seen on the morning of Tuesday, 18 November, in the paddy fields of Khoyrati Rahmania Para beel under the Dochhari beat of Ukhiya range. As word spread, curious people crowded in to see the elephant.

Local farmer Aktar Hossain said the carcass of an elderly wild elephant was seen in a paddy field in Khoyrati Rahmania Para beel on Tuesday morning. People gathered to see the dead elephant, and forest department staff were present at the spot.

Local resident Syed Alam said the elephant died on Monday night and forest staff went there in the morning. He said someone had set an electric net or illegal electric trap there to protect crops, and the elephant may have died of electrocution from it.

Abdul Mannan, range officer of the Ukhiya forest department, said locals informed the department after seeing the carcass of an elderly wild elephant in Khoyrati Rahmania Para beel in the Dochhari beat. He went to the spot in the morning and carried out a preliminary investigation.

He said no signs of injury or wounds were found on the elephant's body, so the actual cause of death is still unclear. A veterinary doctor will be brought in to carry out a post-mortem, and the cause of death can be determined once the post-mortem report is received.
