The Forest Department has rescued an adult spotted deer that lost its way and strayed into a settlement in Sharankhola, Bagerhat. The deer was rescued on Sunday morning from the house of Jamal Mira in Khuriakhali village of the upazila.

After an initial check, the deer was released deep in the Sundarbans on Sunday (19 April) morning.

According to the Forest Department, the female spotted deer, weighing about 25 kg, strayed into the village after losing its way. Local people spotted it and informed the Forest Department. Forest staff reached the scene with WildTeam and volunteers and rescued the deer safely.

WildTeam facilitator Alam Howlader said the deer was rescued very quickly with the help of local people. Its physical condition was normal at the time of rescue, and it was released in the Sundarbans after the necessary checks.

He said wild animals sometimes come into settlements near the Sundarbans in search of food or because of tidal water. He urged people not to disturb such animals and to inform the Forest Department quickly.

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, divisional forest officer of the Sundarbans East division, said people are now much more aware than before, and the deer was rescued and released in the Sundarbans with the help of local people.

He said the awareness and cooperation of local people, alongside the Forest Department, are very important in protecting the Sundarbans' wildlife.
