A venomous cobra was found on the bed in the home of a journalist in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram, and the journalist's mother had a narrow escape.

The incident happened on the night of Saturday (25 April) at Char Goytapara in Dantbhanga union of the upazila.

According to local sources, the mother of journalist Belal Hossain went to sweep the bed before sleeping, as she did every night, when she suddenly saw a cobra in the middle of it. She screamed, and family members and neighbours rushed over. Together they killed the snake, which was about 3 feet long.

Belal Hossain said: "If my mother had not seen the snake in time, there could have been a terrible accident. We had a narrow escape."

Local UP member Mizanur Rahman said such incidents are not new in a char area, and advised everyone to stay alert against snakes.
