The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation has rescued a monocled cobra (khoiya gokhra) from Bhurbhuria tea garden in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. The snake was rescued at about 9am on Friday, 11 September, after it alarmed the garden's workers.

Tea workers suddenly spotted the snake while plucking leaves. Seeing the venomous snake, panic spread among them, and they stopped work and moved to a safe distance. The matter was reported to the garden manager, Siddiqur Rahman, who called the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation to rescue it.

Foundation director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activists Rajdeep Deb Deep and Ridon Gour quickly reached the spot. They identified it as a monocled cobra, a highly venomous snake.

The snake was safely rescued and handed over to the Sreemangal forest range office.

Confirming the matter, Kazi Nazmul Islam, range officer of the Sreemangal Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said the snake would be released into the forest.
