India's Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) has ordered sales of Nestle's 'Low Fat Dairy Whitener' stopped immediately after the product was found substandard, the Kolkata daily Sangbad Pratidin reports.
According to the report, a food analysis laboratory tested samples and found the product substandard under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The results were sent to the food business operator, and a copy of the laboratory report was also given to Nestle.
A notice about the product has since been issued to Bharat Hotels Limited, and the food business has been told to stop selling the identified product.
Consumers have been asked to follow official information and to check details before buying or consuming any product, particularly from the affected batch. The case is being seen as an example of the food safety regulator acting when packaged foods fail to meet safety and quality standards.
