A Burmese python 12 feet long has been rescued from a house in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram.

Local people found the snake at around 10:30am on Sunday, 31 May, in a room of the house of Nur Box Contractor in Charandwip union of the upazila.

According to local sources, members of the family of resident Md Azam suddenly saw the python when they went into the room to fetch firewood for cooking. Frightened, they informed the relevant people.

On receiving the news, Amir Hossain Shaon, a member of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team in Bangladesh, went to the scene and rescued the python.

Amir Hossain Shaon said the snake is believed to have come into the settlement in search of food and taken shelter in the firewood room. The rescued python is a Burmese python, about 12 feet long and weighing about 12kg.

After the rescue, the python was released safely into a hill forest, he said.
