The Coast Guard has recovered 102 kg of deer meat in a raid in Patharghata, Barguna. One person was detained on suspicion of involvement in deer hunting.
The detained man is Md Liton, 49, son of Md Rustom Ali of the Kathaltali area of Patharghata upazila.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-Ul-Haque, the Coast Guard's media officer, confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon (14 December).
Night raid on a tip-off
According to the Coast Guard, a team from Patharghata Coast Guard station carried out a special raid in the Kathaltali area of Patharghata upazila at about 3am on Saturday night (13 December), acting on a tip-off. During the raid, 102 kg of illegally stored deer meat was recovered from the area, and Md Liton was detained on suspicion of involvement in deer hunting.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-Ul-Haque said the recovered meat and the detained man had been handed over to the Patharghata forest department for further legal action. Such raids will continue regularly to prevent the killing and trafficking of wildlife, he said.
