The forest department has safely rescued a spotted deer from the Sundarbans that had strayed into a village at Amurbunia in Bagerhat. Acting on information on Thursday (5 March), forest guards from the Amurbunia patrol outpost quickly reached the spot and rescued the deer.

According to the forest department, the deer was given an initial examination after the rescue and found to be completely healthy, so it was released back into the Sundarbans without delay.

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, divisional forest officer of the East Sundarbans division, said people living near the Sundarbans are now far more aware than before. When they see wild animals, they inform the forest department quickly instead of trying to harm them. "This is a very positive change. With this cooperation from people, the forest's animals will be safer," he said.

He added that, alongside the forest department, the awareness and cooperation of local people is extremely important for protecting the Sundarbans' wildlife.
