Brazil calf prices up 7.8% this year, ahead of fed cattle, as heifer retention cuts supply
Cepea's Mato Grosso do Sul calf index is up 7.83% from January to August against 5.89% for São Paulo fed cattle and 1.77% for lean cattle; earlier female culling has thinned the calf crop, while cautious feedlots facing uncertainty over China, Europe and the US have kept lean-cattle gains modest.
