To mark World Environment Day, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, Rajshahi University Photographic Club, Green Lead and Sonali Bioplastics organised a nationwide "awareness photo exhibition on reducing plastic use".

The exhibition was held on 2 June at the Buddhijibi Chattar of Rajshahi University. Present were Rajshahi University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Sultan Ul Islam, teachers, students and members of the RU Photographic Club.

Md Rabbi Islam, a student of the Film and Television department at Jagannath University, won an award as one of the five best photographs of Rajshahi division. The pro-vice-chancellor handed him the award.

The final exhibition will be held from 10am on 6 June at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan 2 in the capital.

Speaking about the award, Md Rabbi Islam said: "Taking photographs is one of my favourite things. I feel very good when I am honoured somewhere for my pictures. I am glad to have been part of the awareness exhibition at Rajshahi University, and the presence of students at the day-long exhibition was inspiring."

He said: "If we cannot reduce the use of plastic, human civilisation will be under threat. Initiatives like this to raise awareness of the environment are truly praiseworthy. I invite everyone to the final exhibition on 6 June and ask for everyone's prayers."
