Twenty-one individuals and organisations will receive the 2024 National Tree Planting Award for their important contribution to tree planting and greening for environmental conservation. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has made the final selection of 21 winners in seven categories.
The ministry announced this in a press release on Thursday, 19 June.
Institutions and organisations
In category A, for educational institutions, Dalgram Dimukhi High School in Lalmonirhat came first. Government Michael Madhusudan College, Jashore, and Jhenaidah Textile Engineering College came second and third.
In category B, for government and private organisations, the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Manikchhari in Khagrachhari came first. Kushtia Zila Parishad and the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority in Rajshahi came second and third.
Individuals and nurseries
In category C, for individual tree planting, Miss Dilruba Rahman of Tangail came first, Muhammad Yusuf of Chattogram second and Mst Hasina Akhter of Lalmonirhat third.
In category D, for privately owned nurseries, Sohel Nursery of Rangpur came first, followed by Janani Garden Centre of Munshiganj and Mou Nursery of Tangail.
In category E, for individual and institutional rooftop gardens, the Natore deputy commissioner's office came first. Delowar Hossain and Sabina Yasmin of the Rajshahi regional election officer's office came second, and Miss Nasuha Sadaf of Chattogram third.
Forest plantations and research
In category F, for plantations created by the Forest Department, Chattogram North Forest Division came first, with Noakhali Coastal Forest Division and Jashore Social Forest Division second and third.
In category G, for tree-related research and innovation, the Bangladesh Forest Research Institute, Chattogram, came first, the Forest Department's RIMS Unit, Dhaka, second, and forester Md Tauhidur Rahman third.
Each winner will receive a certificate and a crest, along with Tk 1 lakh, Tk 75,000 or Tk 50,000 for first, second and third place respectively, paid by account-payee cheque.
