Some 1,200 chickens were burnt to death in B-Patna village under Naragati police station in Narail. The fire broke out late on Sunday night (26 February). Farm owner Rajib Khan said the loss came to about Tk 8 lakh.

Rajib's father Azam said: "Around 3am on Sunday night I woke up to dogs barking and saw our poultry farm on fire. I called the neighbours and we tried to put it out, but everything had burnt before we could. Three or four people were seen running away. Someone may have set the fire out of enmity."

Rajib Khan said: "I live in a rented house in the Borodia area. When I got the news of the fire I came home and found all the chickens burnt."

Sukanta Saha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naragati police station, said the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit, or someone may have set it out of enmity. "We are investigating with both possibilities in mind," he said.
