Beside the railway line at Mojompur rail gate in Kushtia town, a wholesale fruit market comes alive from dawn. Prothom Alo photographer Hasan Mahmud's photo story captures its bustle.
Amid the auctioneers' calls, apples, oranges, malta, grapes, dragon fruit and pomegranates change hands. The pictures show pomegranates laid out for sale, dragon fruit being weighed after purchase, oranges packed in cartons and boxes full of grapes, along with several varieties of apple.
One buyer loads oranges bought at wholesale onto a van; another carries off grapes. Retailers buy here and take the fruit away by van and other vehicles, while some set up their own displays right at the market.
As the morning goes on, the rail-gate area gets busier. Much of the district's retail fruit trade starts at this dawn market.
