A python about eight feet long got caught in a farmer's net at Hutchinsonpur in Khagrachhari. A Forest Department team later went to the spot and rescued the snake.

According to local sources, the python got caught in a net during farm work on the morning of Monday, 29 June, in the Hutchinsonpur area of Merung union in Dighinala upazila. The sight of the huge snake caused a stir among local people, but nobody harmed it. The matter was then reported to the Merung range office.

A Forest Department rescue team led by Merung range assistant range officer Zafar Ullah reached the spot and rescued the python safely.

Forest officials said the rescued python was in good health. After initial observation, it will be taken to be released into its natural habitat in the deep hill forest.

The Forest Department urged local people to be aware of wildlife conservation, saying that when wild animals stray into settlements, people should not panic or harm them but inform the department quickly. This, they said, keeps both animals and people safe.
