ANNAM.AI, the Centre of Excellence for AI in Agriculture at IIT Ropar, has launched AVNI, Grow with Nature, a free digital learning platform that uses artificial intelligence and hands-on exploration to introduce children to agriculture, plants and nature, Rural Voice reports.
Developed by Dr Mukesh Saini, co-project director of ANNAM.AI, AVNI is available as a web and mobile application. It aims to help children understand where their food comes from, how crops grow and the role agriculture plays in daily life and the economy.
The platform combines AI-powered identification with exploration of children's own surroundings, so that they can learn about crops, fruits, vegetables, spices, cereals and millets they see around them. Content is in Hindi and English, with audio for younger children, and the app includes daily challenges, Nature Points, a digital Nature Book and Nature Gallery, and a Crop Compare feature.
Saini said AVNI is free, carries no advertising and is privacy-focused, with an emphasis on safe exploration. Project director Dr Pushpendra P. Singh said agricultural learning need not wait for a classroom or for a child to choose agriculture as a subject: a crop in a school garden, a fruit at home or a plant in the neighbourhood can become a chance to learn.
ANNAM.AI says AVNI is part of its wider plan to build AI-powered digital public infrastructure for Indian agriculture through open and scalable technologies. The centre works on AI, climate intelligence, digital agriculture, farmer advisory and capacity building.
