To bring children to the mosque and build a habit of praying in congregation, a mosque committee in Chhagalnaiya, Feni, set a challenge: pray in congregation for 90 days in a row. Thirty-two children and teenagers met it and were given bicycles as a reward.
The bicycles were handed over at about 10:30pm on Saturday at the North Haripur Qutub Ullah Bhuiyan Jame Mosque in Pathannagar union. Committee president Mohammad Nazrul Islam Helali presided, and Maulana Mufti Shamsuddoha Nuri, head of Dumuria Darul Uloom Madrasa, was the main speaker.
Helali said the aim was to interest children in prayer from an early age, encourage regular attendance and build a mosque-centred religious and social life.
The children were delighted, and many said they would keep praying in congregation and encourage their friends to do the same. Local people welcomed the idea, saying it would help children's religious practice, discipline and values and strengthen the bond between the new generation and the mosque.
