A programme to plant 50,000 trees has begun at the initiative of Bhola Palli Bidyut Samity to help people cope with the intense heatwave. Its theme was "Let us plant trees in rows, cool the scorching air, grow fruit trees, and never cut another tree".

Trees were planted on Friday (26 April) at about 5.30pm along roads around the Palli Bidyut Samity office at Bangla Bazar in Bhola. Present were Bhola Palli Bidyut Samity General Manager (GM) Khaledul Islam, Assistant General Manager (AGM) Aminul Haque, Sukbed Barai and Mohin Uddin, among others.

General Manager Khaledul Islam said people's lives have been thrown into turmoil by the intense heatwave. The situation has arisen because trees were cut down and not replaced, he said. "So on behalf of the Bhola Palli Bidyut Samity family we have planned to plant 50,000 trees along roads around the electricity offices. There are 512 officers and staff of Palli Bidyut in the district. They and their family members will plant the trees," he said.
