A young man was sitting in his own shop doing business when a venomous cobra slipped inside and coiled up under the cash box. At one point it bit him on the right leg, and the trader died.

The incident happened around 8pm on Saturday, 12 July, in Paragaon village of Habirbari union in Bhaluka upazila, Mymensingh. The dead man was Jahangir Alam Tushar, 25, son of Md Abul Hossain of the same village.

According to police and local sources, Jahangir Alam Tushar was at his business when a venomous snake came out from under the shop's cash box and bit him on the right leg. When Jahangir saw the snake, he shook his leg hard and the snake was thrown off. A tourniquet was tied and he was taken by private car towards Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, but he died in agony on the way. At the hospital the doctor on duty declared him dead.

His cousin Awlad Rubel said the body was buried in the family graveyard after the janaza at 10am on Sunday, 13 July. In the afternoon a local snake charmer searched the shop and found the venomous cobra still inside. He caught it and kept it in a plastic container.

He said Jahangir had married eight months earlier, and his relatives are in mourning.

Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhaluka Model Police Station, said an unnatural death case had been filed with the police.
