Critically endangered goonch catfish caught in the Jamuna and sold openly in Jamalpur

Goonch catfish (baghair) of 30 to 100 kg are taken from the Jamuna on the Madarganj-Sariakandi border and sold almost daily at Balijuri bazar for Tk 1,000 to 1,500 a kg, though the species is protected as critically endangered.
