BGB has seized 18 hilsa being smuggled into India through the border area of Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram.

Members of the Olinagar BGB camp under Feni Battalion 4 BGB seized the fish at around 11:15pm on 8 September in the Olinagar (Amlighat) border area.

The fish was sold at auction for Tk 21,600 on the morning of 9 September.

Olinagar BGB camp commander Naib Subedar Khurshid Alam confirmed the matter.

He said the smugglers sensed the presence of the patrol team while taking the fish to India, left it behind and fled. The fish was then recovered and brought to the camp, but no one involved in the smuggling could be detained.
