The forest department has rescued a wild junglefowl from a local market in Dighinala, Khagrachhari, and later released it into the hill forest.

At about 11am on Saturday (14 March), Md Zafar Ullah, assistant range officer of the Merung range, and Abu Naim Md Shahidul Alam, assistant range officer of the Hajachhara range, carried out a drive in the Boalkhali Bazar area of the upazila and rescued the bird.

Forest officials said the junglefowl had been brought to Boalkhali Bazar to be sold locally. Acting on a tip-off, a forest department team raided the market and rescued it. At 2:30pm it was released into the hill forest in Dighinala.

Abu Naim Md Shahidul Alam, assistant range officer of the Hajachhara range, said the junglefowl is a wild animal and an important part of the natural environment, so everyone must be aware and make sure no one catches or sells such wildlife.

He added that wildlife cannot be protected without the cooperation of local people, and asked anyone who sees wildlife being hunted or illegally sold to inform the forest department quickly.
