An endangered python has been rescued in Debiganj, Panchagarh. The snake is five feet long and weighs about eight kilograms.

The Forest Department rescued the snake on Friday (3 October) afternoon at Pradhanabad Adhkhana Para in Dandapal union of the upazila.

Eyewitnesses and local people said the snake became trapped in the net used to fence a farmer's paddy field in the Adhkhana Para area. On being informed, staff of the Debiganj upazila forest office, with help from local people, rescued the snake alive, put it in a sack and took it away.

Riazul Hasnat, the Debiganj upazila forest official, said it is thought the snake was carried there by recent floodwater. The snake is now healthy and will be released into the forest in Dinajpur as soon as possible, he said.
