BRANDT, a US manufacturer of specialty farm products and agricultural retailer, has acquired all the shares of Agricola Innovacion, S.A. de C.V., known as Altiara, a Mexican company that makes and sells specialty crop nutrition products, OMRI-listed bio-solutions for organic farming, plant protection products and agricultural adjuvants.

Altiara was founded in 2000, is based in Mexico City and Pachuca, and sells mainly in Mexico and Central America. Its portfolio covers organic, biorational and conventional products for crop nutrition, protection and biostimulation.

For BRANDT, the deal adds manufacturing in Mexico and a larger customer base. "With Altiara in the family, we'll be able to manufacture our products in Mexico for shipment throughout Latin America, delivering significant efficiencies in Central America and the Caribbean," said Rick Brandt, president and chief executive of BRANDT. Mauricio Andriao, who leads BRANDT International, said the company had identified Mexico last year as one of its main growth countries.

All Altiara employees will be kept on, and the business will run under BRANDT International and be renamed "Altiara, A BRANDT Company". Francisco Ortiz, Altiara's former chief executive, stays on as Managing Director, Mexico Integration. The relaunched company will appear at the Expo AgroAlimentaria Guanajuato trade show on 10 to 13 November.

BRANDT, founded in Illinois in 1953 by Glen Brandt and his sister Evelyn Brandt Thomas, describes itself as a global leader in foliar fertilisers. The purchase adds to its reach in the growing markets for organic and biological farm inputs.
