Hilsa Worth Tk 22 Lakh Seized While Being Smuggled to India

Border Guard Bangladesh seized 885kg of hilsa worth about Tk 22 lakh as smugglers tried to take it to India through Dowarabazar in Sunamganj.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 885kg of hilsa being smuggled to India through the Dowarabazar border in Sunamganj.

Subedar Abul Bashar Azad, company commander of the Bangla Bazar camp in Dowarabazar, confirmed this to Jago News on Saturday afternoon, 21 September.

BGB said it carried out a drive on a tip-off that hilsa was being smuggled to India through the Banshtala border at Bangla Bazar. The smugglers, sensing the drive, abandoned 885kg of hilsa and fled. The fish have a market value of about Tk 22 lakh. They were seized and brought to the BGB camp.

Company commander Subedar Abul Bashar Azad said: "We carried out a special drive after receiving information that hilsa was being smuggled to India through the Banshtala border in Dowarabazar. The fish were seized in the morning."
