Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 275 kg of hilsa being smuggled into India from the Doarabazar border in Sunamganj.

Subedar Abul Bashar Azad, company commander of the Banglabazar camp in Doarabazar, Sunamganj, confirmed this to Jagonews on the afternoon of 11 September.

BGB has kept all the borders of Sunamganj under strict watch. As part of that, on Wednesday morning it raided the Ghilatoli border area of Banglabazar BOP as 275 kg of hilsa was being smuggled into India. The smugglers dropped the fish and fled, and BGB then seized it. The fish has a market value of about Tk 5.5 lakh.

Subedar Abul Bashar Azad said: "We have stepped up surveillance so that no smuggler can carry out illegal trade across the border. This morning too we seized 275 kg of hilsa in a border drive. Our operations will continue."
