Green aman paddy now covers the fields of Nandigram upazila in Bogura. The plants have reached the booting stage and the ears will ripen once the grain fills. Seeing the state of the fields, farmers again expect a good harvest.
Upazila agriculture officer Gaziul Haque said aman has been planted on 19,540 hectares this Kharif-2 season against a target of 19,545 hectares, and the crop looks good in almost every field.
Farmers are being given advice and support to raise output, he said, and upazila agriculture staff are spending more time in the fields. Higher yields benefit farmers most and also help meet the country's food needs.
Local people said harvesting and threshing will be in full swing from the middle of the Bengali month of Kartik. Minhajur Rahman Habib, an assistant teacher at Ranabagha High School, also said the area expects another bumper aman crop.
Given the present condition of the fields, the agriculture officer said he again hopes for a bumper aman harvest.
